My background is in both marketing, I hold a BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University - Mays Business School, and law, I am licensed to practice law and went to Texas A&M University School of Law. I consider myself a multipotentialite because I not only have a degree in marketing and a law license, but I was a competitive gymnast, a writer, an actress with an acting agent for 15 years, and more. A multipotentialite is someone who doesn't have one true calling like specialists do. We have the ability to be successful in multiple industries sometimes simultaneously.

Through my podcast I want to help you realize Your Potential for Everything and learn from my guests about how they have managed to lead lives in multiple careers and never had to settle for having one answer to the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

In this episode of Your Potential for Everything, host Alex brings on Alyssa Barbieri, a sports journalist and podcast host. She is the Regional Editor of the NFL Wire sites and Managing Editor of Bears Wire along with being a co-host of the podcast Buffone 55. Alyssa talks with Alex about being a female sports journalist, her coverage of the NFL, and her love/hate relationship with the Chicago Bears.

Alyssa vividly remembers her first ever sporting event and her love for sport ignited there. She grew up a Chicago Bears fan and even wrote up box scores and an entire Chicago Bears newsletter when she was younger. She is now covering the NFL and Chicago Bears full time for the NFL Wire sites. While the sports industry is gaining more females, it is still difficult to get a foothold in the industry and there is implicit bias everywhere.

This episode shows there is not one ‘correct’ path to take to get a job in the sports industry. Every person’s path is different and just because you don’t get there when others have, doesn’t mean you should lose hope. Don’t measure your progress with someone else’s because your journey might look different.
